GA 1: Disarmament and International Security

-Combating against the threat of biowarfare and bioterrorism.

Defending against biological weapons is critical to global security. Biological warfare is the intentional use of microorganisms, and toxins, generally of microbial, plant, or animal origin to produce disease and death in humans, livestock, and crops. On the other hand, bioterrorism can be defined as the intentional release of pathogens or toxins by non-state actors to inflict harm on a wide population by infecting humans, crops, or livestock. A few individuals with specialized scientific skills, commercially available equipment, and access to the laboratory can easily and inexpensively produce a variety of lethal biological weapons.
