GA 3: Social, Humanitarian and Cultural
-Preventing modern slavery around the globe
Modern slavery is the severe exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain and it is all around us, but often just out of sight. For many, slavery is synonymous with the past, the transatlantic slave trade. But sadly, slavery still exists in various forms. Today more than 27 million men, women, and children still live in enslavement, or in slave-like conditions. They are trapped in forced labor and debt bondage, in domestic servitude and forced marriages, or exploited by human traffickers. Forced labor and labor exploitation are at the higher end of the spectrum and defined as modern slavery.
